In this edition of our container conversions guide – we run you through the top tips you need to consider when looking for a custom fabricated shipping container or containers!

1. Size – Often customers send us enquiries for bespoke width and length projects which, although, possible, increases costs quite significantly. To standardise the conversion process we work with standard ISO shipping containers, which can be cut down into any length down from 45ft, 40ft, 20ft and 10ft – all these units have a width of 8ft. If you’re looking for a wider container – we can ‘link’ containers together – i.e. to create, 8ft, 16ft and 24ft widths.
2. Doors – all our containers have standard opening double original container doors, along the 8ft end. We can, however, retro-fit original doors to any side, include the opposite 8ft end, to create a ‘tunnel container‘ aka ‘tunneltainer’ as well as along the container’s side – to create a side opening container. In fact, these side loading units come ready manufactured, i.e. with full side across the 20ft side. 40ft full open sided units are also available on request. We can also retro-fit container doors along the opposite sides to create a ‘double opening’ side access container (if that makes sense!)
In addition to container doors – we can fit steel pedestrian access doors (in a range of sizes and specifications) as well as commercial shop front doors (aluminium and uPVC doors). These doors can either be finished in their standard front or, with the addition of double glazing to create the ideal opening into your popup container shop or containerised retail unit or café.
We hope the above conversion tips are useful, in the next guide – we will look at windows and interior fit-out (the basics).
